According to recent diet research from the University of Colorado Denver Health Sciences Center, processed foods and beverages with high levels of fructose corn syrup could increase the risk of hypertension . Salt isn’t the only thing that should be avoided in diets seeking to lower the risk of developing high blood pressure.
To reach their conclusion, the experts studied 4,528 adults with no history of hypertension. Diets were examined using a dietary questionnaire. Those people that ate more than 74 grams per day of fructose, around 2.5 sugary soft drinks every day, increased high blood pressure risk.
The authors reportedly concluded: "These results indicate that high fructose intake in the form of added sugars is significantly and independently associated with higher blood pressure levels in the U.S. adult population with no previous history of hypertension."
