Healthy Diet Can Reduce Number of Strokes

Several thousands of deaths from heart disease and stroke could may be prevented every year just by eating more healthily, according to experts.
The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidances suggests slight changes to the diet, like lowering salt and saturated fat intake, can dramatically lower the number of lives lost to cardiovascular disease.
Should such recommendations be adopted throughout the country it could mean huge improvements in public health, saving the NHS millions of pounds on an annual basis.
Experts have called on the food industry to urge for levels of salt and saturated fats to be reduced to lower the vast numbers of unnecessary deaths.
Trans fats, which are already known to increase risk of heart disease and are classified as toxic by the World Health Organisation, ought to be omitted from food altogether.
