Diet Cola can Increase Vascular Diseases

Recent research suggests a link between diet cola consumption and vascular disease.
There is a statistically significant increase risk of vascular events, such as, heart attacks and strokes, amongst those who drank diet soda on a daily basis in contrast to those who did not drink diet soda or regular soda.
The research involved 2,564 individuals from multi-ethnic communities.
The researchers studied the link between diet and regular drinking of soda and the risk vascular events, such as, strokes and vascular death.
White people, diabetics, those with low cholesterol and those with heightened BMI, vascular disease and metabolic syndrome were more likely to drink diet soda.
Black people and those who ate a high number of calories were more likely to drink regular soda.
During a follow-up 9 years later, researchers discovered that 559 vascular events have taken place, including 212 strokes and 338 vascular deaths.
On the whole, those who drank diet soda on a daily basis were 61% more likely to be at risk of vascular events than those who did not drink diet soda.
