Tips for cheap shopping

Postby daniel on Tue Aug 12, 2008 12:12 pm

 On my way to Tesco last night and I went into a supermarket called Lidl on an impulse. Man! This place was so cheap, and the food didn't seem too bad either. I filled up a whole trolley for £47... no way I coulda done that in any of the other major supermarkets. Some stuff in there isn't that good, but most of it just seems the same except not from brands you (or me anyway) know!

That's my tip for cheap shopping for the week.

Well they say Netto is cheap! Went in there last night after work and they did not have everything I needed.

Nor were they cheap. The salad, fruit, vegetables and toilet rolls I got were just as same price wise as Tesco or Asda.

My son wanted a bottle of Coke, which we hardly drink any more, and it was £1.59. So we left it.

Was left needing to go to Tesco's in the end as Netto did not have any avocados!

What a palava!

A way to ensure that you save money is to ensure that you eat what is in your fridge.

It is amazing how much money we waste because we do not use all that is in the fridge.

And check what you have and do not buy what you are not going to consume within the "use by" date.

Iceland is pretty cheap as well,,,,,, for brands that are the same anyway (Coke, Pringles, chewing gums, tunas, bread, etc) the price is very good. I buy from there when there is a party and people need things to nibble at (sausage rolls, crisps, etc)....
I also suggest buying from a local grocer - they are fresher and cheaper than in supermarkets... and they have not been transported in lorries all over england! When I see people buying wrapped up potatoes and sealed vegetables in supermarket it just makes me wonder ... just how many miles did those poor veggies spend in a lorry? We have to care about what enters our stomachs!
