I cannot control my eating of junk food

Postby Vincent on Wed Feb 04, 2009 8:50 am

Hello everyone,

I am a working executive, working long hours and addicted to fast food, usually eating while I'm in the office. I seem to eat whether I'm hungry or not and have got to a stage where I am unable to control my eating habit. Unfortunately, my weight is increasing and I'm being forced to buy clothes a size larger than normal. I can devote a little time to exercise, but is there a recommended safe way to lose weight? I've heard of all these diets, such as Atkins, that don't sound very healthy at all.

Hi,
I fully understand your problem - its quite common that people working long hours in offices pick up habits like eating junk food and set aside no time to exercise. Junk food is a serious health risk. My advice would be the following:
• Stop eating junk food, or at least cut it down to eating junk food a maximum of once per week.
• Start some simple, low key exercise such as walking

Hello there

The Atkins diet may help you lose weight. However, it is low in carbs and fats which makes you feel weak.

A balanced diet, with lots of fresh fruit and veg, whole grain and wholemeal could be something you could consider.

And as you are in sedentary job, going for a walk at lunch time is good too as it refreshes you and gets you away from that desk.

Cooking your own food is a good too.

If you are a non-vegetarian, ensure you go for lean meats and have mash or new potatoes and a salad or steamed veg alongside.

You have to make it happen for yourself.

Junk foods are highly addictive. In the American film "Supersize Me" it was emphasised how we get addicted to the fats in junk foods as well as the high levels of sugar. So we repeatedly eat a diet which is not nutritionall good for us, nor of course any good for our overall health.

We increase our risk of getting strokes, coronary diseases and other ailments.

So when we hear the old adage, "you are what you eat" - that surely seems true!

A good way to ease junk food intake is to say just have a burger and not the fries and sugar laden drink.

If I am going to have some junk food, I just have the vege burger alternative from Maccies or Burger King.

When I read how many calories there are in takeaway Chinese and Indian, I started making my own. Now I can see exactly how many calories are in the food, as I am making the dishes.

Am not a fish and chips fan, so that is not a temptation.

It can be difficult to stop eating junk food, yet there are ways you can ease yourself off them.

And it may not be necessary to not have them altogether. It is the frequency of such meals that creates the addiction. So the occasional meal of junk food cannot be that harmful nor addictive.

Hi,
I am writing to give you a little suggestion which I think helps : bring yourself self made sandwiches and slices of fruit in a lunch box!!! Cut by you and arranged in a nice way, with a lot of diversity, I can promise it brings changes. It's all about how much you really want to give junk food up. Instead of chocolate, eat a banana , some pineapple slices, some low fat yoghurt, there are sooooooooo many alternatives. Think about your health and imagine yourself healthier and happier!

Hello,
I can understand your problem - its quite common for people working long hours in offices. they are habituate to take junk food. They have no time to exercise. Perhaps Junk food is a serious health risk. Having only junk food may cause serious problems, it stuffed stomach so we can't able to have meal at regular time. So whole life cycle is mess up. You can have fresh juice rather than having only junk food.

Hi Vincent,

I totally understand your predicament. I've personally had some success with fasting.

I discovered Fasting earlier this year and it has had an amazing impact on my life.

People are often wary of fasting as it sounds scary - but actually it's about FEASTING on juice every day, not stopping eating!?

Rather than dive in I've been fasting one day a week - and not only have I lost weight, I have gained control and discipline over my diet.

I'm so inspired by my results that I've set up a forum for other people to try it out. It's not-for-profit and is totally free.

People like Gandi, Winston Churchill and Stanley Matthews have proclaimed the benefits of fasting so it's not a new thing.

Good luck and do drop me a line with any questions.
