Grow Your Own Pumpkins

Pumpkins are very versatile. They can be used for soups and as ingredients in stir fries, curries and stews.

How To Grow Your Own Pumpkins?

  • Sow your pumpkin seeds from April to June.
  • Put some compost in a 7.5cm (3inch) pot and pat gently. Put a seed in on its side 2.5cm (1inch) deep in the pot and cover.
  • Water, label and place on a windowsill.
  • Ensure the soil is kept moist. Once the roots are visible through the bottom, put in a 12.5cm (5in) pot.
  • Once the plant is established, plant outside.
  • Feed frequently and mulch well.
  • With wire train shoots on ground level. You will need to raise fruits off the ground onto bricks or wood.
  • Do not remove fruits on plants until their skin is hard and the stem has cracked. Once the fruit are ripe, remove with a length of stalk.
  • Leave in the open in full sun for upto ten days to harden properly.
