A special type of low Glycaemic load diet may help acne sufferers to clean up their skin condition, according to a small study carried out in Melbourne, Australia at the RMIT University.
Foods with high glycaemic loads cause a steady increase in blood glucose levels. Those foods that release their glycaemic load more slowly are seen as an essential part of the ideal diet. They release glucose gradually and over a sustained period.
Dr. Robyn N Smith, of the university, reportedly commented: "The results of this study open up the prospect that nutrition-related lifestyle factors may affect the (development) of acne."
The results, garnered from a study of 43 men with acne, were published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology . The research team were clear to point out that the results are preliminary and further research is required.
