Diet of junk food can influence education

Thu, 14 Aug 2008

A recent study indicates that including junk food as part of a daily diet could make children more likely to fall behind at school.

Young people who eat sweets, crisps and chicken nuggets at a young age could face an increased likelihood of failing at school, when compared to others who did not eat junk food .

The study examined some 14,000 children who lived in Bristol, and ruled out other factors such as low income or poor housing . Diet was found to significantly influence child development .

Dr Emmett, who worked on the study, reportedly said: "It indicates that early eating patterns have effects that persist over time. So it is very important for children to eat a well-balanced diet from an early age if they are to get the best out of their education ."
