According to recent reports, mothers that eat oily fish high in omega-3 fatty acids actually help their children to develop more powerful brains. The study found that eating a diet rich in fish gives the baby a strong intellectual advantage.
Harvard University conducted the study, finding that of those children tested at age three, those with mothers that consumed regularly fish as part of their diet scored higher in intelligence tests .
The study team reportedly commented: "Maternal fish intake more than twice a week was associated with improved performance on tests of language and motor skills. Dietary recommendations for pregnant women should incorporate the nutritional benefits as well as the risks of fish intake."
Professor Emily Oken, leading the study, was reported as commenting: "In the present study, women who ate more than two weekly servings of tuna had children who performed better on the developmental tests ."
