Special diet for children with epilepsy

According to a recent study, a diet high in fats and low in carbohydrates could help to control epileptic seizures amongst children . The ‘ketogenic’ diet could be useful in helping children that do not response well to conventional drug therapy .
The research team, from University College London, put children experiencing high levels of epileptic fits on a special anti-epileptic diet, which proved very effective in stopping seizures.
The study reportedly confirms that eating a ketogenic diet was safe and effective for children with epilepsy that was resistant to drugs. However, common side effects included hunger, vomiting, lack or energy and constipation .
A variety of different diets exist to aid children with various diseases. Diet can be an essential part of maintaining health, both for those with no chronic condition and for people suffering from diseases such as epilepsy and diabetes .
