Under a government initiative called Change4Life, nine towns across the UK will be funded to help their residents live healthier lives, eat healthier diets and stave off the increase in obesity .
Change4Life is part of the Healthy Weight Healthy Lives strategy, a £372 million government obesity plan . Healthy Towns will involve Dudley, Halifax, Sheffield, Tower Hamlets, Thetford, Middlesbrough, Manchester, Tewkesbury and Portsmouth.
Each town will be given sums ranging from £1 million to £5 million. Health secretary Alan Johnson reportedly commented: "Change4Life marks the start of a lifestyle revolution which aims to help mums, dads and families eat well, move more and live longer."
