High protein diet could help women keep fit

According to recent reports in the diet news, eating a diet high in protein could help older women to stay fit. Older women were advised to eat lots of protein, as their bodies find it hard to replace lost muscle .
A new study conducted by researchers from the University of Nottingham and the Washington University School of Medicine in America found that women over the age of 65 should try to regularly eat meat and eggs and focus on resistance exercise.
For men, the issue was less evident, as they managed to store protein in the muscles. The research team linked the inability to utilise protein amongst women with the menopause.
The professor in charge of the study at Nottingham, Michael Rennie, reportedly commented: “Nobody has ever discovered any mechanistic differences between men and women in muscle loss before. This is a significant finding for the maintenance of better health in old age and reducing demands on the National Health Service .”
