A new study has discovered that women who adhere to diets high in allium vegetables, such as, onions, leeks and garlic, are less susceptible to hip osteoarthritis.
The research was conducted by researchers from King's College London as well as the University of East Anglia.
It emphasises the potential effects a diet can have in terms of protection against osteoarthritis.
Moreover, the research also highlights that there is potential for utilising compounds in garlic to develop treatments for osteoarthritis.
A link between body weight and osteoarthritis has been discovered previously, even though it is not fully understood.
This study is a forerunner in terms of delving into healthy dietary patterns which can affect the development and prevention of this condition.
