Diets are responsible for 30% of UK greenhouse gas emissions.
The Rowett Institute of Nutrition and Health at the University of Aberdeen states that should we slightly alter our diets we would lower the environmental impact on food production, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve our health standards.
These dietary suggestions could be adapted anywhere in the world.
In general, the diet recommends eating a greater quantity of seasonal, regionally grown fruit and vegetables, consuming less white and red meat and eating fewer highly processed foods which are more resource-intensive to produce.
Other diets, such as, the vegetarian diet and the vegan diet, are also environmentally friendly ways of food intake.
