A fibre rich diet can lower the risk of bowel cancer, according to an expert.
Bowel Cancer Wales, a charity whose mission is to increase awareness of this disease and supports sufferers, suggests that medical screening, a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle can lower the risk of developing this condition later in life.
Not only does sticking to a healthy diet, high in fibre, whole grains and fruit lower the risk of developing bowel cancer, just a short, slow walk does too.
This supports findings of a new study just published in the British Medical Journal which found that a high intake of dietary fibre can considerably reduce the risk of bowel cancer.
Factors related to bowel cancer include the risk that, without early detection, polyps can become cancerous. Hence, regular screening is vital for detection.
