A straightforward diet full of fruit and vegetables can apparently keep heart disease at bay.
A massive study considered how specific genetic variations which can heighten an individual's likelihood of a heart attack and cardiovascular disease (CVD) are affected by lifestyle factors, like, diet, levels of exercise, smoking and weight.
The study discovered that specific effects of these genetic variations can be countered by a diet full of raw veg, fruit and berries. Raw veg appear to have especially important effects.
The study’s findings stress that individuals with specific genetic risk factors for heart attack can lower their risk by adopting diets high in fresh fruit and veg.
Given that half of the ethnic groups tested for this study has one of the four risk variants, the application of these findings amongst the overall population is bound to be high.
