New research highlights that a low fat diet with fish oil supplements can slow down prostate cancer growth.
American scientists made the discovery after testing prostate tissue samples taken from men with the disease.
They found that just four to six weeks on the diet was enough to reduce the growth of cancer cells.
The same impact was not evident in a group of males who were on a regular Western diet with no fish oil supplements .
The Californian research found that a low-fat, fish oil diet lowered the number of rapidly dividing cells in the prostate cancer tissue.
This is crucial as the rate at which the cells are dividing can predict the progression of cancer .
The lower the rate of cancer cell proliferation, the less likely the possibility of developing cancer.
