Eating a diet rich in fruit and vegetables can help people achieve a healthy summer glow, it has been suggested.
Miguel Toribio-Mateas, a nutrition expert and advisor to Astral, the makers of the all-over moisturiser Astral Light and Creamy, recommended individuals consume many different varieties of these foodstuffs during the warmer months.
Mr Toribio-Mateas explained skin becomes radiant thanks to intake of natural substances, as the brightly coloured pigments produced by plants - known as phytonutrients - can act as a form of defence against stressors including heat, sunlight, cold and wind.
Individuals wishing to look their very best when out in the sun may therefore want to work plenty of fruit and veg into their diet, as pigments found in such produce can act similarly to vitamins.
Mr Toribio-Mateas explained carotenoids include orange, yellow and red pigments found in these foods, while dark, green and leafy vegetables are also rich in the substance.
He stated: "Flavonoids are reddish pigments, found in red grape skins and citrus fruits and isoflavones can be found in lentils, soy and other legumes."
