Atkins Diet Increases Risk of Heart Disease

A quarter of a century study states that the Atkins diet is increasing the risk of heart disease .

In 2004 Swedish researchers discovered that the introduction of the low-carbohydrate diet triggered a splurge in saturated fat intake, with a cholesterol spike three years later.

Low carbohydrate/high fat diets can assist short-term weight loss . If this long-term weight loss is not maintained, this diet increases blood cholesterol, which has a huge impact on the risk of cardiovascular disease .

These diets emphasise reducing the intake of sugar and starch whilst increasing the intake of fats, including saturated fat .

Its proponents claim that it enables you to maintain normal weight and blood sugar levels, while freeing individuals up eat their favourite foods.
