Popularity of Organic Food
UK sales of organic food have risen faster than any other European country. 75% of households bought at least one organic purchase in 2007.
Organic food sales were £802m in 2008, about 200m up from 2007.
Land for organic food production has doubled in the last year.
There has been a proliferation of companies licensed for organic food production.
British supermarkets make up 80% of sales, with farm shop sales having gone down by 6% in the last year. Only 2% of sales are made up by independent retailers.
