What is Organic Food?

Organic farming is a specific method of food production, involving crop rotation and effective animal and environmental management.

Should a food product be an organically processed one then a minimum of 95% of that product needs to have been produced organically or 95% of the ingredients of that product need to be organic.

Few additives are employed in the production of organic food.

Organic food production features

  • Minimal use of pesticides and artificial fertilisers
  • Great importance is attributed to the welfare of the animal and its wellbeing, as well as stock density. Special emphasis is given to soil health and its maintenance via the use of manure, compost as well as crop rotation
  • Organic food producers have a specific group of additives they are permitted to use
  • Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are totally restricted on organic produce
