Fad diets come about every year, and at New Year people are particularly prone to fad dieting to shed pounds gained during the festive season. New Year fad diets are particularly dangerous, according to a recent study by the RAC Foundation.
The RAC, who conducted the study to show how food can impact on driving ability, indicated that fad diets were dangerous in the extreme. They indicated that eating unhealthily could lead to serious road safety threats.
By eating poor quality or irregular meals, the RAC argued, people can become fatigued and stressed . They point to figures that show 20 per cent of crashes on motorways are down to fatigue.
As a solution, the RAC suggest incorporating carbohydrates into a healthy diet, looking for foods with low GI in particular.
