What a mother eats during pregnancy can make a big difference on the timescale of her son or daughter’s puberty, according to a recent report.
A study conducted at the Liggins Institute found that mothers with high-fat diets during pregnancy and breast-feeding may see their children enter puberty earlier than other children, and the child may be more likely to be obese as an adult.
Head researcher Dr. Sloboda was reported as commenting: “Other research suggests that a combination of prenatal and postnatal influences in girls can affect the onset of menarche. Sloboda reportedly ocncluded: “Maternal high-fat nutrition may influence reproductive maturation and reproductive capacity in adult offspring.”
