According to diet research in the UK, a great proportion of people are not eating the much needed five portions of fruit and vegetables per day.
The research indicates that just 12 per cent adhere to the five per day target, with another 12 per cent not eating any fruit or vegetables at all. The UK is clearly not advancing towards healthy eating goals. Child and adult obesity has reportedly boomed in the last decade.
According to health guidelines, everyone under the age of five should consume approximately five 80 gm portions of fruit and vegetables every day. Five portions from a variety of sources could have major positive health benefits .
Interestingly, the study found that the elderly are more likely to eat a diet rich in fruit and vegetables.
