Researchers from Canada have reviewed a huge amount of diet research that links different diets with heart disease . The team found that diets high in vegetables and nuts, such as Mediterranean diets, were associated with lower risks of heart disease than other diets .
The study reviewed some 50 years of research, and the researchers made it clear that a systemic review remains to be established. The team analysed all published literature in the MEDLINE database, finding 150 cohort studies and over 40 randomised trials.
The authors of the dietary study reportedly commented: “The evidence supports a valid association of a limited number of dietary factors and dietary patterns with CHD [ coronary heart disease ].”
