According to a report into fat-busting drug alli, high street chemists have been selling the diet pill to women who do not need to lose weight . Which? the consumer magazine revealed that half of independent pharmacies would actually approve the drug for sale to thin women.
Alli has been proven to enhance weight loss by up to 50 per cent when combined with a reduced-calorie, lower-fat diet . However, the manufacturer of the drug, GlaxoSmithKline recommend that the drug is only sold to overweight people who have a BMI of over 28.
One senior researcher who organised the study, Joanna Pearl, reportedly commented: “We were expecting to see outstanding results because we knew that pharmacies have been given clear guidance about the sale of the drug. But there still seems to be a problem with independents where half were unsatisfactory.”
