Diabetes pills favoured over diet tips

According to reports in the diet news today, health professionals are providing pills for patients with diabetes, rather than advising them on diet and exercise to better control their condition. Researchers examined 650 type 2 diabetes patients and found that over a third were given medication in the first month.
Type 2 diabetes is a chronic disease often linked to obesity and a poor diet . In many cases, type 2 diabetes is preventable through eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly.
Dr. Rob Andrews of Bristol University reportedly commented: “If you don’t give patients the chance to understand their disease and don’t let them try to control it with diet and exercise, evidence shows that for all the time they have diabetes they don’t focus on diet and exercise. We know that during diagnosis is the time when people may actually take action on those things.”
