A new type of diet pill that promises to overcome obesity has helped overweight people lose up to 15 per cent of body mass, according to dieting news. The drug, Qnexa, is thought to be the most effective weight loss medication on the market.
Apparently, patients on both high and low doses of the drug lost weight at an equivalent rate to obesity surgery . Dr. Gadde, a director of obesity clinical trials in Duke University, North Carolina, was reported as commenting: ‘The weight loss observed with Qnexa in these trials far exceeds the weight loss observed for other obesity drugs.’
The Food and Drug Administration are still reviewing the diet pill . Another expert, Dr. Aronne, reportedly said: “We are in desperate need of more options and effective drugs to treat obesity and the results of this trial were extremely encouraging. The results we were getting were as least as good as someone who was losing weight after gastric band surgery.’
