India Warned of Dangerous Dietary Supplements

The American Food and Drug Administration has warned India that there is a likelihood that certain products containing steroids are entering India in the guise of dietary supplements .
The Food and Drug Administration stated that these products had entered America, without the agency approving them and the majority had been as “dietary supplements”.
When tested the products they were found to contain steroid or steroid-like substances rendering them an unapproved new drug. Most of these products were being distributed via the internet as opposed to a distributor network.
In terms of product user health, the steroid contains products which places users at risk of acute liver damage .
Used in the long term steroids can also breast enlargement in males, masculinisation of women, reduce the stature of children, have negative effects on the blood lipid profile and increase the risk of heart attack and death.
