Recent research published in the British Journal of Nutrition, a bi-monthly international peer-reviewed journal, discovered that Chinese men aged 40 plus on diets high in fruit and milk as opposed to vegetables or meat are less likely to develop hypertension .
The researchers from the South Korea, China and the United States discovered that dietary patterns in relation to blood pressure play a crucial role in the increasing cases of hypertension in developing countries.
The World Health Organization (WHO) says, “hypertension is already a highly prevalent cardiovascular risk factor worldwide because of increasing longevity and prevalence of contributing factors such as obesity .”
The study analyzed 39 252 men with no prior history of diabetes, hypertension or stroke and their dietary patterns were grouped as vegetable, fruit and milk, and meat.
Alcohol played a part in the research; those who ate more fruit and milk and were non-drinkers had the lowest blood pressure and were less likely to have both pre-hypertension and hypertension.
Diet modification is a crucial way to self manage blood pressure by upping daily intake of fresh fruits.
