The weather and age invariably catch up with our skin and we begin to look older and our skin not as taut or healthy.
So what can we possibly do to ensure that our skin looks as taut and wrinkle free as possible?
A new Australian study suggests that a healthy diet is indeed as crucial for our skin as for our bodies.
The study team has discovered that there are foods which keep those wrinkles at bay, such as, fish, berries, apples, prunes, vegetables, legumes, nuts, olive oil and tea .
Whereas, meat, particularly red meat, full fat milk, butter and and sugary foods work in the the opposite way.
Exposure to sunlight causes much of the damage to our skin. Sticking to a diet high in foods rich in antioxidants, such as vitamins A, C, and E, assists in the prevention of such damage. Foods rich in antioxidants help to slow down the ageing process at the cellular level.
Hence, it makes sense to eat lots of fresh fruit and veg on a daily basis. It is advisable to also eat healthy carbs like rice, wholegrain breads and chapatis.
Should you eat meat, stick to lean meat or fish.
Moreover, you have to drink enough water, sleep and exercise enough for the skin to glow.
It is also of course essential to stop smoking to maintain your skin in optimal condition.
