A healthy diet which incorporates various foods with anti-inflammatory qualities can help keep multiple chronic diseases at bay.
This is the latest finding of new research from Lund University.
The diet that was used for this study lowered bad cholesterol by a third, blood lipids by 14 per cent, blood pressure by 8 per cent and blood clots by 26 per cent.
Moreover, this diet lowered inflammation in the body, enhanced memory and cognitive functioning amongst participants.
For the purposes of the study, the diet used contained foods high in antioxidants, low in GI carbohydrates, high in omega-3 fatty acids, wholegrain products and dietary fibre in 44 healthy but overweight people aged 50 to 75.
Participants led a diet which cut low-grade inflammation within the body, which can lead to type 2 diabetes, obesity and heart disease .
The diet included barley, oily fish, soya protein, almonds, blueberries, cinnamon, vinegar, as well as a specific kind of wholegrain bread.
