Salt Intake Has Increased Amongst Americans in the Last Five Decades

Americans have unfortunately been renowned for their high-salt diets .
In spite of warnings to cut down on salt intake, new research has uncovered that this has been a trend over the past 50 years.
High-salt diets are associated with increased blood pressure, as well as a higher risk of stroke and heart disease .
It is common knowledge that salt intake has increased due to the fact that Americans consume more processed foods today than they did in the 1950s.
The study has been published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition and states that despite the intense effort to enable Americans to reduce their salt intake, that has not been the case.
Health experts affirm that reducing salt intake in processed foods by 50 per cent could save 150,000 lives per year in the U.S.A.
