Unhealthy Lifestyle and Diets Double Cases of Oral Cancer

Smoking, alcohol and unhealthy diets double the cases of throat, food pipe and mouth cancers amongst young people.
Each year these diseases, collectively known as upper aero-digestive tract (UADT) cancers, kill 10,000 individuals in Britain and 100,000 plus across Europe.
Michael Douglas, 66, is in the process of receiving gruelling treatment for throat cancer.
Such cancers are becoming more common amongst younger people.
A five-year research study monitored 350 patients aged under 50 with UADT cancers, as well as 400 patients who were not suffering from such diseases.
Nearly 90 per cent of the cancers had been by smoking, alcohol and/or inadequate fruit and veg in the diet .
The study results further stress the message that the public need to hear, that smoking, alcohol and poor diets are the major triggers of such diseases no matter what age the individual is.
