Researchers put eighteen participants with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease on a low-carb diet, that is, less than 20 grams a day or a low-calorie diet for a fortnight.
For the last seven days, they could have diets of their choice, including the number of carbohydrates of their choice.
The study found that two weeks after participants had started their low carb diets they had lost the most liver fat.
The low-calorie dieters had lost an average of ten pounds.
