Fish Oil Helps Lower Weight Loss from Chemo

Supplementing your diet with fish oil can prevent muscle and weight loss that usually occurs in cancer patients who have to have chemotherapy.
The process can mean cancer patients lose muscle mass and become malnourished, causing fatigue, a lesser quality of life and reduced longevity.
Researchers consider that dietary supplements containing fish oil, with omega-3 fatty acids, can aid patients in retention of or actually gaining muscle.
University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada researchers led a team which compared the impact of fish oil with diets containing no fish oil.
They monitored muscle, weight and fat tissue.
Those who did not take fish oil experienced an average weight loss of 2.3 kilograms, whereas, those who got fish oil retained their weight.
