Diet Related to Depression

New research has discovered that eating trans-fats and saturated fats as part of your diet heightens the risk of suffering from depression .
Whereas, olive oil protects you from this mental illness.
American scientists studied the diet of 12,059 volunteers over six years.
The volunteers’ diets, lifestyles and any ailments were analysed at the start of the project and at the end.
When the study began not one of the volunteers suffered from depression. However, at the close of the study there were 657 new cases of depression.
Those who were suffering from depression were found to have a higher dietary intake of trans-fats, that is, those artificially found in industrially-produced fast food and pastries. Such fats increased the likelihood of developing depression by 48 per cent in those who ate them, in cotrast to those who did not.
Moreover, the study highlighted that the more trans-fats an individual ate, the more depressed they became.
