Dieticians could find themselves responsible for asthma treatment in the near future.
The impact of diet on asthma currently lacks the clinical data to substantiate any changes in the present approach to treatment, according to University of Aberdeen researchers.
However, this may change over the next few years.
Researchers have suggested that further studies ought to focus on the possible impact of dietary supplements, such as, vitamin D, vitamin E and zinc on asthma.
The lead researcher has stated that the link between diet and asthma remains unclear.
However, he added that certain dietary interventions could form low cost, safe public health interventions to quickly lower the prevalence of asthma in children and adults, with benefits for the wellbeing of the individuals involved and society as a whole.
