Yo Yo Diets Do Not Promote Long Term Weight Loss

Recent research has discovered that hormones related to appetite have a crucial role to play in relation to the possibility of regaining weight post dieting .
The study uncovered that individuals who have the highest levels of leptin and lowest levels of ghrelin are much more susceptible to gaining weight after dieting.
This is known as the ”yo-yo” effect and is prevalent amongst some individuals who follow weight loss programmes.
The findings have highlighted that some individuals are susceptible to the “yo-yo” effect and others are resistant to benefits of diets .
It appears that every individual responds to treatment given his or her predisposition to certain characteristics.
Specific overweight or obese individuals who gain more weight after a diet may even be identified prior to starting their weight loss therapy, by checking the plasma levels of the two aforementioned hormones.
