The diet which has been adhered to be Kate Middleton and her mum has been lambasted by health experts as the least successful weight loss plan.
The British Dietetic Association (BDA) says the Dukan Diet is not based on anything scientific and can leave dieters with fatigue, bad breath and constipation.
The four-phase diet, adapted by singer Jennifer Lopez and supermodel Gisele Bundchen, begins with 72 high-protein foods for rapid weight loss. This is then followed by “pure protein” days, alternating with days of protein alongside vegetables.
The third, “consolidation” phase introduces other kinds of food, ending with a final “stabilisation” phase.
The BDA claims that this diet has “absolutely no solid science behind it at all” and strongly advises against eliminating food groups.
Fife-based nutritionist Dr Carina Norris states that the Dukan Diet is not impractical and possibly dangerous.
She says that the diet is extremely restrictive and highly complex to stick to.
