Scottish National Party leader Alex Salmond is rumoured to have started the 5:2 weight loss regime.
This according to a source close to the politician, who reportedly told the Sun newspaper the man wants to tighten his waist substantially in time for the 2014 independence referendum.
While a daily intake of 2,500 calories is recommended for most men, for two days of the week Mr Salmond may cut down to just 600 calories.
The source told the tabloid: “A lot of us are worried about his weight … deaths of other people with similar weight issues makes you think.”
While a spokesperson for the first minister refused to comment on the claims, Mr Salmond has been making an effort to appear more in the public eye in the run-up to the 2014 vote and was seen unfurling a saltire flag when Andy Murray won Wimbledon on Sunday (July 7th).
The 5:2 diet has been popular among many celebrities, including Ben Affleck and was made famous by Michael Mosley, a physician who published The Fast Diet book.
