Stars of hit TV show Coronation Street have joined the latest craze to hit the diet world – 5:2 fasting.
The slimming plan involves eating normally for five days a week and then reducing calorie intake to just 600 per day for the other two.
Cast members on the diet include Ian Puleston-Davies – who plays burly builder Owen Armstrong – and the man’s on-screen daughter Cherylee Houston.
Mr Puleston-Davies is reported to have lost a stone on the diet, which inspired the rest of the cast.
Ms Houston has a painful, rare disease called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome that harms her body’s tissue, but said the diet helped her.
“[When] I looked back, I realised the fasting had changed my pain pattern a lot, which is amazing. I have been on it six weeks or so and it’s massively elongated the period until I crash,” she remarked.
The 5:2 diet plan was created by Dr Michael Mosley and has proven a huge success with celebrities including Jennifer Lopez, Jennifer Aniston, Gwyneth Paltrow and Philip Schofield – who lost half a stone in 30 days on the regime.
