Thousands of women are taking to buying corsets as part of a new slimming craze currently sweeping the UK.
The Corset Diet is a simple concept – the dieter puts on the antiquated piece of lingerie first thing in the morning before eating their breakfast and keeps it on for the remainder of the day. In theory, the item of clothing acts as an external gastric band, squeezing the stomach so the wearer does not need to eat as much to feel full.
As a result, the dieter consumes less calories and, in theory, loses weight.
Several celebrities have recently been quoted as saying they have used the corset diet – with Jessica Alba attributing it to helping her get her figure back following both of her pregnancies – the last of which was in 2011.
The actress told Net-a-porter: “I wore a double corset day and night for three months.”
She also added that it was “brutal” and “sweaty”, but ultimately that it was “worth it”.
Jennifer Garner, Gwyneth Paltrow and Kourtney Kardashian are all rumoured to have also dabbled with the diet.
