Australia’s parliament is informing food manufacturers that they ought to reduce the salt, sugar and fat content in their products on a voluntary basis or the government will ensure they do so.
A parliamentary committee has stated that it wants these healthy changes to be undertaken in a reasonable amount of time.
The parliamentary committee has said that it wishes the federal government to provide wellbeing incentives to make gyms and healthy foods more affordable to the masses.
It also wants to make gastric band surgery more readily available and halt some of the fraud and abuse occurring in the weight loss industry.
Moreover, the committee has suggested changes in junk food advertising on tv and food labeling to slow down the increase of obesity in Australia .
It is estimated that about seven million Australians are going to be obese by 2025, placing an enormous strain on the healthcare system.
