Mediterranean diet may cost too much

According to diet news today, Mediterranean diets may simply cost too much for the average family, despite the obvious health benefits. Foods packed with artificial flavours, fat and sugar are more tempting because they are so cheap.
Following a Western diet including red meat, sweets and biscuits leads to more snacking, greater food consumption, and higher calories consumption than those who purchase healthier foods.
The findings were part of a study published in the journal of Epidemiology and Community Health. People that spend more tend to eat less, the study found. Those that purchase fresh fish, olive oil, and fresh fruit and vegetables were found to consume less in both quantity and calories.
The study was conducted at the University of Navarra in Spain .
