Venus Williams has had to change her diet following the autoimmune disease which kept her out of the 2011 US Open.
She is hoping that her new approach is going to bring her back to the top of the women’s tennis rankings.
She changed her diet completely, eating lots of vegetables.
She says this also changed her mindset, as she had been the individual who ate the steak first and the salad second.
Her lifestyle change comes after her shock withdrawal from September’s US Open with Sjogren’s Syndrome, a chronic disease where white blood cells attack moisture-producing glands and cause dysfunction of organs and body systems.
The seven times grand slam champion began to suffer from fatigue and swelling due to the illness and is now in 103rd place after not having played much during 2011.
Thanks to a healthier self and a healthy diet she wants to be playing a full schedule this year.
Williams’ last grand-slam singles triumph win was her 2008 Wimbledon success.
Despite her health problems, her achievements have been incredible.
