Obesity which is caused by a fatty diet can speed up the progression of acute lymphoblastic leukemia, according to a study undertaken by the Saban Research Institute of Children Hospital Los Angeles.
Obesity has been related to an increased incidence of multiple cancers, including leukemia.
However, it is not known whether or not the increase in incidence is a direct effect of obesity or related to genetics, health, lifestyle or socio-economic factors.

The researchers placed two mouse models on a high-fat diet to induce obesity, with all mice randomly being put on a high-fat or a controlled diet.
They then found that obesity increased the risk of all the mice to cancers in both models, especially in older mice.
