Benefits of Outdoor Exercise

Written by Kimberly Rothman At a time when we have more gyms, more books on exercise, and have access to a vast amount of information on exercise on the internet, why are we so desperately unfit as a nation? We need to do it outside!!! Research has shown that we can burn up to 30% more calories outside. Why? Because our core temperature will always work to keep around 36.8C. It takes energy to do this, the bodies currency for this is calories, and so you will burn more calories by simply being outside, let alone the many other benefits associated with training outdoors. If you have woken up in the morning with a “foggy” head, the...

Equipment Needed for Home Workout

You will only need a mat and a set of dumbbells and a kitchen chair for these sessions. As a very general guide, I suggest you start of with a 2 kilo set if you are a woman and a 4 kilo set if you are a man. These can now be bought at places like Tesco or Argos and of course sports shops. Whether you have a garden that you decide to work out in or your lounge or bedroom, be sure that the area around you is clear of toys or any other objects that you could trip over whilst working out. You need to be able to lie down flat and imagine a circle at the furthest point when your arms are outstretched to be clear. Next: The workout...

Exercise Can Reduce Blood Pressure

According to scientists at Imperial College and Surrey University , exercise after meals helps promote weight loss due to the boost of hormones which suppress appetite. Due to such hormones, active people do not get as hungry straight after exercise. Experiments indicated that this carries on until their next meal. Even consumption of bigger meals does not mean sporty people put on any weight as they burn the extra calories off. The single best thing that individuals can do should they have high blood pressure is to exercise. However, two thirds of doctors still do not inform patients who have high blood pressure that exercise is...

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

Irritable Bowel Syndrome, often just shortened to IBS, is a common, long-term condition that affects the digestive system. Symptoms include stomach cramps, bloating, constipation and/or diarrhoea. They vary from person to person and last for varying amounts of time, but going to the toilet may ease the symptoms and discomfort felt. Although the onset of symptoms can vary, as IBS is an unpredictable condition, they may come on particularly during stressful times, or when eating. It is currently still unclear what causes IBS. People are more likely to develop the functional gastrointestinal (GI) disorder in their twenties, and it...

Diet and Anorexia Nervosa

People with anorexia may also suffer from low self esteem and have a great need to control their emotions and environment. This eating disorder can be a specific reaction to inner problems like feeling sad, lonely, unhappy, uncertain or anxious. Anorexia is not a healthy way to handle such emotions, and it can lead to serious health issues. Nonetheless, it would appear that if life cannot be controlled then at least what goes into the body can. Many anorexics also have great sensitivity about being seen as fat. In some cases, the need for self esteem and acceptance is somehow met by being considered thin. Food control is seen to be a...

Diet and Bulimia

People who suffer from bulimia nervosa often have periods of binging and then purging. They might consume a lot of food within a short period of time. They may take such things as laxatives or make themselves vomit as they find dealing with their emotions overwhelming. Instead of dealing with their emotions or talking about the way they feel, they binge and purge so that they do not need to deal with feelings of depression, anxiety, stress or anger. Many bulimics are aware that they have an eating disorder. Bulimia...

Diet patches are becoming more and more popular. They are being marketed as the easy way to lose weight. All of them claim that they transport several ingredients through the skin. Diet patches assert that the herbal ingredients within the patch burn fat, reduce appetite, as well as stimulate metabolism. The majority of diet patches contain four key ingredients: Guarana - guarana originates from a Brazilian plant and stimulates the nervous system. In addition, it...

How do You Know if You Have an Eating Disorder?

Whatever your gender, age or ethnic background you may suffer from an eating disorder. Eating disorders can be a way for people to cope with feelings of sadness or depression. The sufferer feels they cannot discuss their emotions, like loss, unhappiness, fear or guilt. So their eating patterns develop in such a way they are able to cope with their emotions, or the eating disorder becomes a replacement for the emotion. For example, anorexics and bulimics do not eat properly in order to exercise control on their life which they otherwise feel they do not have. Binge eaters often replace food for human comfort. Please use this section...

Lactose Intolerance

The most frequent reason for having to avoid dairy products is intolerance to lactose, which is the natural sugar in milk. In most cases lactose intolerance happens due to the body producing not enough of the enzyme lactase which enables proper digestion. Lactose intolerance symptoms Lactose intolerance produces symptoms similar to those of a mild allergy, like a nettle rash or mild tummy. This renders it pretty difficult to diagnose, as lactose intolerance symptoms usually occur several hours after you have eaten a dairy product. Symptoms are often confused with those of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), PMS and stress. Facts...

Similarities between Anorexia and Bulimia

Both these illnesses have similarities, and there are stong links between suffering from either condition and clinical depression. Eating disorders can cause depression or depression can lead to the development of an eating disorder. Altogether, eating disorders involve complex emotional issues. It may seem like an eating disorder is no more than a highly obsessive weight concern. However, eating disorder sufferers often have more complicated emotional issues that need to be resolved.
